What else is a new mum to do at 2:20am when her 5 day old, first baby, has been admitted to the hospital for sever jaundice and liver problems? Isn't it obvious? Why not start a blog?
Jack David William Blatz was born on January 1, 2010 at 9:40am. He was 17 days early and weighed in at 6lbs 11oz. Chris and I were both shocked when I started having contractions on December 29, 2009. Oddly enough Chris had spent the day working on Jack’s crib while I felt enthusiastically inspired to move furniture and set up Jack’s room. Never did we imagine that I would spend the next two and half days in labour. While the whole ordeal was...well...horrific (ask Carly...I can not talk about it); Jack is here and we love him to pieces! Below are some of his first pictures.
JUST JACK!!
Jack and Auntie Carly. The shirt reads "My Auntie Rocks"...and she does.
So now we are here...it is now 3am and I am in the very quiet peds ward on my own. Chris has gone home as there is only one very small bed for me, and my brand new son is in an incubator getting what appears to be a good sun tan, while earning his new nick-name (one of many); Holiday Jack.

This morning we got the great news that Jack’s biliruben score went down enough for him to be taken out of the incubator. If he can sustain the low score out of the lights for the day we will get to go HOME!!!
Good news – it is 6:30pm and we are out of here!

OMG – it is just Jack and Mara. We wish that Chris could be home every day.
Mum and Jack on our own...actually we are on a walk with Carly, Leif, and Matias but Chris is at work nonetheless.
Chris as a dad has been the best and most exciting part about Jack being around. I knew that he was going to be great at it but I am in wonder. He is so calm and helpful...he even gave Jack a bath on his own!
I have heard many times that having a child will bond you to your spouse in a very intense way but never did I imagine that I would form this inexplicable respect for my husband. I wish that there was a word stronger than love.

Leif does not like Jack
After months of my nephew Leif touching my pregnant tummy and lifting my shirt to say hi to Jack Bebe he has decided that he does not like him. It all started last week when we stopped by his house to say hi. I was welcomed by my usual “MAWRA!!!” only for the greeting to take a dramatic turn. Leif took one look at the car seat that I was carrying and yelled “NO WANT IT”. Poor Jack Bebe; hopefully one day his cousin will like him.

We are getting FAT!
When Jack was admitted back into the hospital on January 6th he had dropped below 6 pounds. I am very proud today to announce that he is now back up to 6lbs 14oz. I realize that most parents never have a baby that weighs 6lbs 14 oz but we are going to take our gain and run with it! I am so proud of Jack for being such a little porker...now if only I could keep up!

Sleep is for Losers...
Wow – last night was rough. Jack is SO hungry all of the time and I think that I spend the entire night feeding him; I got no more than 3 hours sleep. I remember a few years ago when Chris’ brother Brad had his first son Tyler; Chris and I would baby sit him and play and not pay attention to any directions regarding sleep or eating times. Instead I decided to teach Tyler the phrase “Sleep is for Losers”...karma sucks.
Jack having a "nap"
So...while last night was not great this morning was a tad bit worse. Carly and I discovered a great walking trail and wanted to go there this morning. On my way out the door I could not find my car keys anywhere...finally I remembered that I left them in the stroller in the garage. Thank goodness, crisis over, we can continue on to our walk. I quickly packed up the car and went on my merry way only to realise half way to the trail that I forgot the stroller in garage...at least I found the car keys. Will I ever be on time again?
One really great thing about today is that we got to meet Nolan! Gillian and Zach Silverman welcomed Nolan David on Thursday, January 14th and I could not be happier for them. Nolan is so completely adorable and I cannot wait to watch him grow!
Nolan! He is SO cute!
Jack and Nolan
This is great, now grandma & papa can use this new technology (hey to us it's new) to keep-up with what's happening in the lives of baby Jack, his mommy and daddy.
ReplyDeleteI am SO happy you have joined the blogging world! It is so fun (and dare I say, addictive)! I am excited to keep tabs on Jack who is so adorable!
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain on the sleepless night front. Remy is nearly two and we still have nights where I only catch 2-3 hours of sleep! It wears on you!
Love you guys!
